To rid your carpet of foul smells first blot any strongly affected spots with a damp cloth. One originates below. There was a time about 20 years ago when we were seeing yellow spots appearing on white carpets. It was traced back to the cushion and pressure from the mills put an end to it.

Either way it can be quite annoying to see spots and stains re emerge on a carpet you thought was just professionally cleaned. Many expensive cleaners are on the market. These stains occur if there is too much cleaning solution and water used during the cleaning process. You could apply that to the spots and watch the yellow disappear.

If your carpet has brown spots after cleaning call back the company that you had clean your carpets. Mix a cleaning solution of 50 50 warm water and white vinegar. Unfortunately many of these do not work. When stain resist carpet came into existence many yellowing discolorations appeared especially after cleaning.

Wicking occurs when the substance that was spilled on the carpet has soaked through into the backing of the carpet and sometimes even the underpad when you clean the stain you are cleaning the surface of the carpet. They should come back out and re rinse the carpets with an acid rinse. The solution back then was to get citric acid and mix it at 6 oz per gallon of water. They should be able to get the remaining high ph out of the carpet bring things back into balance and get it looking great again.

The kind of yellowing is noticeable because it is a very bright canary or legal pad yellow. Jute backings deteriorate in time and undergo chemical changes. There are two primary causes of carpet re spotting. Other times the spots come back after several weeks have passed.

How to fix a browned out carpet. These changes produce brown or red colorants lignin which can wick up to the face yarns and appear on the surface of the carpet after cleaning. Another reason these brown stains occur is that dirt that is usually deep down in the carpet resurfaces as the carpet dries. Ammonia and water will normally do the trick for most stains including urine and other yellow stains.

The other common cause of reappearing stains is something referred to as wicking. Sometimes spots can reappear as soon as the carpet dries. Realize that having carpet along with children or pets will mean stains from time to time. Next blot the area dry with a clean dry cloth or paper towel.

The age of the carpet is also important. As the carpet dries the brown or red color remains on the tips of the tufts.
